How Calorie Calculation Works
This calculator uses the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, which is considered one of the most accurate formulas for calculating calorie needs. It estimates your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) - the number of calories your body needs at rest - and then multiplies it by your activity level to determine your Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE).
For weight loss, we subtract 500 calories per day to aim for about 0.5kg loss per week. For weight gain, we add 500 calories per day to aim for about 0.5kg gain per week.
